The Unplanned Beginning of Studio Kynd: My Story
I often get asked how Studio Kynd started. People assume there must have been a carefully thought-out strategy, or years of business experience behind it. The truth is far less polished but far more human.
At the time, I was working in oncology, deeply committed to my patients and my career as a nurse, but in between the shifts, there was a quiet pull towards creativity. What started as a passive hobby, playing around with graphic design for fun, soon led to an unexpected opportunity: my first client.
I didn’t have a studio, I did not have a business plan and I didn’t even know how to build a website (unless you count some old-school HTML from my Bebo days) but what I did have was the willingness to learn, to figure things out as I went, much like my hands-on training as a nurse.
That first client became my on-the-job training. I learned branding by doing and that experience opened doors to four more clients. Suddenly, I was making more money from this “little side project” than from my job. That’s when I made the boldest decision: to leave my secure career and dive headfirst into building Studio Kynd.
It wasn’t easy and there have been tears, moments of doubt, and a lot of learning along the way. But every challenge has shaped the life I now get to live, one filled with creative freedom, travel, and the ability to support clients around the world.
One day, I was struggling to pay rent. Today, I’m able to stay in beautiful hotels, wear the dresses I used to dream about (this time, the quality is a little better – but the joy remains the same).
5 Things I’ve Learned Along The Way:
Start before you’re ready.
Perfection is overrated. Momentum is what builds confidence.
The best way to learn is by doing.
No course or manual can replace real-world experience. Dive in, make mistakes, and grow.
Relationships are everything.
My earliest clients referred me to others. Word of mouth is still the most powerful form of marketing.
Your business will evolve as you do.
Studio Kynd today looks very different from when I started. Growth is meant to be messy and organic.
Success is built from consistency, not magic.
Behind every “overnight success” is someone showing up daily, often quietly, laying brick by brick.
Studio Kynd wasn’t planned but looking back, I do believe it was manifested, not through force, but through aligned action and trusting the small steps. If you’re at the start of your own journey, unsure of what’s next, let this be your reminder: you don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to begin.
Are you building a dream from scratch too? I’d love to hear your story.
